Job Description:

This a temporary 2 year position.

Operating under general supervision and with oversight, an Engineer I is developing technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads assignments and projects, may interface with internal departments and external organizations, and receives guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.

General job duties:

  • Analyze and configure electric utility-related control systems supporting real time transmission, generation, distribution and reliability operations

  • Plans, coordinates and maintains GE Alstom Energy Management System (EMS) network model, SCADA, generation, and alarm models, CIM, ICCP measurements, and the EMS displays

  • Ensures accurate modeling of power network for state estimation, power flow, single line diagram displays, and automatic generation control (AGC)

  • Supports the specification, standardization, design, testing, documentation and development of the EMS to meet changing requirements

  • Plans and leads modeling projects, assignments and technical investigations

  • Works with other departments and organizations

  • Exercises technical judgment in decision-making

  • Utilizes industry- and discipline-related knowledge to interpret and comply with regulations as required by NERC, FERC, WECC, EPA, NESC, OSHA, FCC, etc.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Knowledge of:

  • General to excellent knowledge of engineering principles

  • Developing specific knowledge related to discipline, utilities and their business environment.

  • Interdisciplinary skills

  • Advanced use of computers and software related to position.

Ability to:

  • Manage and coordinate projects; establish and maintain effective working relationships

  • Work both independently and on project teams

  • Develop alternatives and work with others to evaluate their value and potential for meeting company needs

  • Analyze datasets and databases

  • Draft written and oral reports of problems, alternatives and recommendations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution (or completion of the degree by May 31st 2019).

Experience:

  • 0-2 years of experience with in electrical, power systems, system protection, computer systems or communication engineering.

Prefer

  • Demonstrated experience in electrical engineering or power systems and SCADA or EMS applications and modeling.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Prefer

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) designation

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The successful candidate for this position will be required to complete scheduled compliance training and submit to periodic background investigations as mandated by NERC.

  • Must be able to work on call on a rotational basis and respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours

  • Must live or relocate to/within 40 minutes of the Operations Dispatch Facility

  • Some travel is required within the IPC service area with occasional overnight stays.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Temporary employees are only eligible to apply for internal job postings if the posting is in their current department. Internal, regular employees who are successful candidates will be placed as regular employees in a Temporary Duty Assignment job classification. Qualified employees must have been in their current position for at least six months and have supervisory approval to participate in order for their current position to be held for their return.
